Pa. anti-mail-service pharmacy bill would hurt efforts to hold down prescription drug costs

A bill being considered in Pennsylvania would force mail-service pharmacies to increase copayments, deductibles and cost-sharing to match independent pharmacies and chain drugstores, writes Edward Lawrence. "[I]f passed, this legislation will force middle-income consumers and small businesses to pay more for their pharmacy benefits at a time when rising health care costs are impeding economic growth. ... At a time when virtually every other sector of the health care system is working to become more innovative and efficient, the independent pharmacists are moving in a different direction," he writes.
