Competition asks students to solve everyday challenges

As part of the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge, students in grades five through eight were challenged with inventing solutions to obstacles people face in their everyday lives. Students developed ideas ranging from energy-conserving vehicles to equipment that makes it easier to center subjects when taking photographs. They made videos of their inventions, and the winners of the challenge will be announced next month in St. Paul, Minn.
