Grocers get serious about produce traceability

Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores will reject produce that doesn't comply with Produce Traceability Initiative guidelines beginning Nov. 1, while Whole Foods is working on its own set of traceability standards and Publix Super Markets has implemented an RFID system to track produce. "We have reached a tipping point where the majority of the industry is getting behind PTI," said Elliott Grant, founder and CTO of Redwood City, Calif.-based YottaMark.
