IHS: Biopolymers' cost, properties remain hindrances for sector's growth

Standardizing the cost and material properties of bio-based polymers would help the sector grow and meet the increasing demand, according to a report from the IHS Chemical Process Economics Program. "While bio-based polymers currently comprise less than one percent of the total global polymer market, there is significant consumer demand and that demand, combined with increasing legislation such as plastic bag bans and global warming initiatives, are driving increased market opportunity," the report says.
