Imaging test may reduce the need for liver biopsy

Magnetic resonance elastography noninvasively and accurately pinpoints pediatric fibrosis, even in cases of chronic liver disease and severe obesity, a series of case studies shows. If tests of more patients confirm the findings, MRE could serve as an alternative to ultrasound-based elastography, aid in early diagnosis and reduce the need to perform a biopsy to diagnose liver fibrosis.
