The ups and downs of U.S. avocado supplies

Overall U.S. avocado supplies are at a 60% level after heavy rains in Mexico hurt crops there and California growers meter out the remains of the 2013 crop, writes avocado expert Avi Crane. The industry has been short at least 126,400 cartons per week since the middle of August, but it's on track to recover in the fourth quarter as Mexico recovers and fruit from Chile and the Dominican Republic starts arriving, he writes.
