Genzyme test helps doctors choose targeted cancer drugs

Genzyme's test for detecting a likely response to targeted drugs, which usually work only for a subset of patients with particular cancers, could help physicians choose among the plethora of drugs offered for treatment. Genzyme is first out of the box with a test that heralds the onset of personalized medicine -- a kit designed to show how a patient will respond to AstraZeneca's Iressa or Genentech's Tarceva, two drugs with specific cancer targets.
