You can build a company with firm policies, or you can build a company with lots of individual leeway, but you probably can't do both, Tim Berry writes. In the end, your team may determine which approach is best for your business. You may prefer for employees to make decisions on a case-by-case basis, but "[t]hat makes some people very uncomfortable; they want to know the rules and follow them exactly."
