Basel III could spark consolidation in the banking industry

Basel III rules on banks' liquidity and capital are expected to clarify which banks are in a good position and which are not. The situation could prompt mergers and acquisitions in the industry. Analysts expect U.S. Bancorp, BB&T, PNC Financial Services Group, Huntington Bancshares and other well-capitalized banks to emerge as buyers.
