FDIC gives banks 3 months to meet securitization standards

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. approved a proposed rule that would require banks to retain 5% of risk on asset-backed securities in exchange for protection from rules covering assets of collapsed financial institutions. The rules, which include additional disclosure, will be implemented at the beginning of the year. The FDIC board also was briefed on how its resolution authority would work.
