N.Y. mulls building tunnels to lift burden on Brooklyn-Queens Expressway

The 55-year-old Brooklyn-Queens Expressway needs a face-lift. The New York Transportation Department is considering relieving the expressway of some of its traffic burden by building parallel tunnels, including a proposed $254 million tunnel that would be built starting in 2017. The expressway could then become a feeder route, rather than the main artery it is today.
