Consumer confidence may be up slightly in September

Consumer confidence dropped in August to the lowest levels since April 2009 after Standard & Poor's downgraded U.S. debt, and economists surveyed by FactSet expect only a slight improvement when the Conference Board reports September results today. Ongoing worries about employment, inflation and the economic crisis in Europe continue to dampen consumers' outlook, industry watchers say.
