EU rule could spread more audit business beyond Big Four

The dominance of the Big Four auditing firms could be curtailed under a proposed regulation backed by Michel Barnier, the EU's internal-market commissioner. A draft of the regulation includes, among other things, a requirement that large companies undergo joint audits and that one of the auditors be a firm other than Deloitte, Ernst & Young, KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
