The American Heart Association has released a scientific statement that highlights body mass index and waist circumference as primary tools to measure adiposity. BMI differentiates body composition from body-fat distribution, while waist-circumference measurement may help identify patients with excess visceral and liver fats, according to the statement in Circulation.
