New platforms give rise to new ad units

Ads that blur the distinction between advertising and content and conform with different platforms are rapidly displacing display ads, says Union Square Ventures co-founder Fred Wilson. Wilson applies the term "native monetization" to such forms of advertising as Google paid-search, Facebook "likes" and Twitter's promoted tweets, each of which offers advantages but requires a different approach.
