Routine platelet testing prior to PCI likely not the answer

Patients preparing to undergo PCI who have high residual platelet reactivity after clopidogrel loading are at a higher risk of negative outcomes, but conducting routine platelet testing before the start of PCI is not the answer, said Dr. Dominick J. Angiolillo, of the University of Florida, Jacksonville, College of Medicine. Angiolillo wrote an editorial in the Journal of the American Medical Association as an accompaniment to research presented by an Italian-led team on the use of platelet testing prior to PCI.
