GAO endorses USPS plan to reduce health costs

The U.S. Postal Service could significantly reduce health care costs by moving forward with a proposal to start its own health plan and remove employees from the Federal Employee Health Benefit Program, according to a report by the Government Accountability Office. Most of the cost reductions would come from increased Medicare use by USPS retirees, the report noted.
