Teacher: Why students should draw pictures when they take notes

Taking notes in class can be more than words, teacher Wendi Pillars writes in this blog post. Pillars leads her students in exercises in which they draw their notes -- also known as sketchnoting or taking visual notes -- and has found that it helps to improve learning and comprehension. To help other teachers introduce the practice, she suggests stopping at certain literary passages and asking students to visualize the scene, let students draw imperfectly and allow those who struggle to copy teachers' sketches.
