Study: Online platforms help employers save money

Using online platforms for particular health care circumstances can result in savings for employer-sponsored health care plans, according to a new study by the firm Milliman. The study found that substituting follow-up doctor or nonemergent ER visits with interaction via an online platform can produce significantly reduced medical costs. Other potential applications of online care, including chronic-pain management and care management, currently are under review, Milliman says.
