Chemical rail shipments increased 17.4% for the week of Sept. 19

Chemical shipments by rail, considered an important indicator of demand in the chemical industry, increased 17.4% for the week ending Sept. 19 compared with the same week a year ago, according to the Association of American Railroads. Year-to-date figures show that rail-car chemical loadings have dropped 14.5% from the same period last year.
