Georgia NBCTs are feeling pain of bonus cuts

Georgia legislators have cut the 10% bonuses received by more than 2,000 National Board Certified Teachers, causing many to lose at least $3,000 to $4,000 on top of local salary cuts. The bonuses for NBCTs began in the 1990s, and the state paid about $13 million in NBCT bonuses last year. "I fully expected a state salary cut, but to cut the supplement to a small group of teachers is picayune and discriminatory," said Tom Lewis, a longtime NBCT at Whitewater High School in Fayette County.
