Japan's Nikkei 225 lost 1.1%, while South Korea's Kospi Composite and New Zealand's NZX 50 edged down 0.3%. China's Shanghai Composite slid 0.6%, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 inched down 0.1% and Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index dropped 1%. Taiwan's Taiex and shares in the Philippine closed unchanged. In afternoon trading, Singapore's Straits Times Index fell 0.6% and India's Sensex slipped 0.4%.
