Britain's free schools aren't required to hire certified teachers

Britain's new free schools could be exempt of the requirement to hire nationally qualified teachers, unlike state schools. Education watchers worry this could short-change teacher quality at the state-funded but independently run schools. "The idea that free schools might not use qualified teachers would be very worrying for most parents," says Alasdair Smith of the Anti Academies Alliance, a group that opposes free schools.
