Lifestyle intervention brings benefits for overweight diabetics

Overweight diabetics in a four-year lifestyle intervention improved their weight, fitness, glycemic control, blood pressure and cholesterol more than those who had just regular support and education, researchers reported. The biggest benefits came after the first year but there were some sustained effects over four years. Participants will be followed to determine whether lower risk factors translate into fewer cardiovascular events.
