Second Brooklyn waterway is added to Superfund cleanup list

The Environmental Protection Agency has declared a 3.8-mile stretch of Newtown Creek in Brooklyn, N.Y., to be toxic enough to merit placement on the Superfund cleanup list. The waterway that divides northern Brooklyn from western Queens becomes Brooklyn's second hazardous Superfund site. The EPA labeled the Gowanus Canal a Superfund site in March.
