Shelter closes to cats, euthanizes felines to stop spread of deadly virus

The Everett Animal Shelter in Everett, Wash., temporarily closed its doors to cats and euthanized all 21 cats and kittens in its adoption area to stop the spread of the feline panleukopenia that has killed two kittens since Sunday. The highly infectious virus kills cells in the bone marrow and intestines and often leads to death, the AVMA says.
