Study: Counterfeit goods are on the rise in Russian retail

Counterfeit goods make up 24% of sales in nine top-selling Russian retail sectors, including cosmetics, shoes and alcohol, found a new report from Moscow's Higher School of Economics. The findings are an about-face for Russia's retail industry. "We no longer see a decrease in the number of counterfeit popular brands in Russia: earlier positive trends became negative under the pressure of the financial crisis in 2008-2009," according to the report.
