Stimulant use has increased among children with ADHD

The use of stimulants among children and teens younger than 19 for treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder increased by an average annual rate of 3.4% from 1996 to 2008, a study found. Researchers reported in the American Journal of Psychiatry that 3.5% or about 2.8 million children received a stimulant prescription for ADHD in 2008.
