Study: North American oil output could reach record high by 2016

North American oil production is expected to reach a record high of 11.5 million barrels per day by 2016, driven by shale-oil and deepwater-Gulf projects in the U.S. and oil sands projects in Canada, according to a report from Bentek Energy. "We have this momentum out there to set about doing what we said we wanted to do back in the 1970s: reduce the flow of imports from volatile regions," said Joseph Pratt, a historian at the University of Houston.
