Less play, more schoolwork for California kindergartners

California policymakers are introducing more academics into the kindergarten curriculum as part of the state's drive to make standards more rigorous. Many teachers and parents worry that the children, some as young as 4 years old, are not mature enough to handle intense instruction in reading and mathematics.
