Source: Senate legislation may require 20% cut in carbon emissions

A Senate bill scheduled to be released today reportedly seeks a 20% reduction in greenhouse gases emitted by U.S. refineries, factories and other industrial sources by 2020. The 20% goal is higher than the 17% target in the House's version of the bill, which was approved in June, but both have set 2005 as the base year for the cuts. The Senate's climate measure is expected to undergo major revisions before a committee vote is held, said a spokesman for Environmental Defense Fund.
