Stay-home-with-flu advice conflicts with sick-leave reality

The prospect of swine flu season has rekindled the debate over paid sick leave and whether companies should be required to provide it. Debra Ness, president of the National Partnership for Women and Families, sums up the dilemma: Government officials are advising people to be responsible and stay home if they are sick while nearly half the workforce in the U.S. does not get paid for time off because of illness.
