Banri Kaieda, Japan's minister for economic and fiscal policy, said China's action to block the export of rare-earth minerals to Japan might become a serious threat to the economy. "The de facto ban on rare earth's export that China has imposed could have a very big impact on Japan's economy," Kaieda said.
