Senators ask FDA to use different approval process for biotech salmon

Sen. Mark Begich, D-Alaska, and 10 other senators wrote a letter to FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg, saying the agency should stop reviewing the approval application for a biotech Atlantic salmon, AquAdvantage. They claim the FDA is handling the process as if it were for approval of a veterinary drug, not a new animal meant for human consumption.
