Unemployment dips in large metro areas

Unemployment rates dropped in 230 out of 372 metro areas in August, compared with only 152 cities in the previous month, according to the Labor Department. Overall, the national unemployment rate rose 0.1 percentage points to 9.6% in August with the end of temporary census jobs and the downturn in the housing market.
