U.S. consumer confidence declines; shoppers don't expect more jobs

Consumer confidence in the U.S. has fallen this month, largely in response to grim prospects for the job market, The Conference Board said. The Consumer Confidence Index dropped to 48.5, down from August's 53.2. To indicate a healthy economy, the index has to reach 90, which hasn't happened since before December 2007.
