Public employees prefer pensions to 401(k) plans

Employees who work for states that offer a choice between pension retirement plans and 401(k) plans choose pensions between 75% and 98% of the time, according to a study of seven plans in six states by the National Institute of Retirement Security. The study also found that pension plans usually receive higher investment returns than 401(k) plans.
