Google is about to release the Glass Developer Kit, which should excite developers that were limited under the Mirror API release, Frederic Lardinois writes. The GDK permits access to the compass, gyroscope and accelerometer, and allows developers to render complex OpenGL-based graphics and real-time augmented reality applications, among other improvements. The GDK "opens the doors for a whole new group of Glass apps that are currently either impossible to build or just available to those who are willing to hack their $1,500 spectacles," Lardinois writes.
