Discount retailers chomp at Albertsons market share

Wal-Mart, WinCo and Fred Meyer are responsible for eroding Albertsons' customer base in Boise, Idaho, where the grocery giant is based. Albertsons executives say matching discount retailers' prices isn't part of their strategy. "Our marketing approach focuses on total value, and that is location, superior quality, variety and price," said Bob Colgrove, Albertsons president.
