India testing disease-resistant rice

A disease-resistant variety of rice is undergoing field-testing in various regions of India to see if it can withstand the disease attacks that have plagued the region. The director of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology said about 15% of India's rice crop is lost to diseases each year, and the center also plans tests on five different diseases that have been reported for the first time only recently.
