AIA chief praises Congress for NASA authorization

The $20.2 billion NASA Authorization Act of 2008, now awaiting the president's signature, tells the next president that congressional support for the space agency remains strong, according to Marion Blakey, president and CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association. "Congress is sending a clear signal to the next President with this bill that the country is serious about the importance of developing the NextGen air transportation system and in maintaining our leadership in space," Blakey says. The bill boosts aeronautics spending by $208 million over last year's level and provides $1 billion for faster development of the Orion spacecraft and Ares 1 launch vehicle.
