Investors snap up corporate bonds, stock offerings in Q3

The third quarter provided indications that the capital market has returned to solid ground as investors bought stock and debt offerings from a variety of companies. "The markets are beginning to function normally," said Andy Hill, a senior portfolio manager at Comerica Asset Management. "We went from panic and destabilization, and now we're seeing more confidence. You had a number of deals put on the shelf, and now they're getting done." The stock and bond sales occurred during a rally in the market, with the return on high-yield corporate bonds reaching about 16%.
