Technology helps cut costs of mishandled bags

As airlines seek to trim costs everywhere they can, pressure is increasing to cut down on mishandled bags, which cost an estimated $100 each for tracking, shipping and reimbursement -- a total of some $3 billion a year. Better scheduling programs have helped, along with technologies such as bar code scanners and bag tags embedded with radio chips.
