IOM to study health IT effects on patient safety

HHS has tapped the Institute of Medicine to investigate the effect of health IT on patient safety and identify ways to address potential problems, under a one-year contract worth $989,000. "The IOM can help us identify a productive path to better patient safety with the help of HIT," said Dr. Donald Berwick, the head of the CMS.
