CSU veterinary diagnostic lab helps solve animal crimes

Veterinarians at CSU's Veterinary Diagnostic Lab, the only such lab in Colorado, use their expertise in pathology, virology, toxicology and parasitology to solve alleged animal-cruelty cases. They provide answers for law enforcement and grieving owners but also protect public welfare. "There's been a well-established link between cruelty to animals progressing to cruelty to people," said Colorado State University pathologist Gary Mason. "I hope we provide a larger social service by ... making sure an intervention occurs to someone that's abused animals."
