The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is eligible to apply for funding as part of a new $25 million federal grant competition, known as Supporting Effective Educator Development. The competition is open to national nonprofit groups with a track record of success that focus on professional development for educators in disadvantaged communities, English/language arts training or advanced credentialing or certification. "It's a carve-out program that rewards programs with records of success," said David A. DeSchryver, a federal grants expert. "They clearly have certain programs in mind, and they are investing in these through competitive grants."
