Study: Teachers benefit when principal is of the same race

Black teachers who work for black principals are generally happier in their jobs and more likely to report being supported and recognized for accomplishments, according to a University of Missouri study that surveyed more than 37,000 teachers and principals nationwide. "We hope these findings could provide justification for policymakers to undertake programs targeted at increasing the flow of minority teachers into the principal pipeline," said Lael Keiser, co-author of the report. She also said that all principals should work to ensure good communication with teachers that are of a different background.
