Common core brings renewed interest in education theorist

Education theorist E.D. Hirsch Jr., who wrote "Cultural Literacy: What Every American Needs to Know" in 1987 was largely ignored for about a quarter century. Now, however, he is in demand as his push for more specific curricula is viewed as largely in line with the Common Core State Standards. His lesson plans, teaching materials and exercises also are viewed as complementary to the standards.
