As demand for TAVR grows, pipeline fills with improved devices

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement is gaining momentum as a preferred treatment, cardiologists say. Several safer, retrievable and versatile devices are in the pipeline, and many physicians expect TAVR procedures of the future to be performed in collaboration with surgeons in hybrid operating rooms and cath labs as demand for the procedure grows. "When given a choice, patients who are in the high-risk category and are eligible for TAVR invariably choose TAVR," said SCAI fellow Dr. Howard C. Herrmann.
