Experts ID mortality risk factors in type 1 diabetes

A study presented at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes meeting revealed type 1 diabetes patients who died as of December 2012 were older, had higher baseline HbA1C and were more prone to be socially deprived. "Glycemic control and social deprivation are independent risk factors for mortality in type 1 diabetes and identify characteristics of a population that may benefit from targeted interventions aimed at improving health outcomes," said researcher Dr. Stephen Thomas and colleagues.
